9 weeks till Christmas!

HandmadeFashionJean ChungComment

Less than 9 weeks till Christmas, guys. Seriously, this year went by way too fast.

Winter in Southern California is one of my favorite time of the year. Mainly because it would rain, and it's great to have some climate change. People think I'm bragging when I say things like this but seriously, 90 degrees day in and day out, it's exhausting and dangerous for the environment.

Not to mention it's a great excuse to finally get some use out of the things I've knitted over the years! These past few days, it has been around low 60s in the morning and with our high ceilings and hardwood floors, we feel pretty chilly now. I put on some colorwork cardigan on Logan, and I pull out my handknit socks and sweaters (even if it's just ones in cotton for now).

So the holiday season is definitely upon us. Which means gifting. And I would like to offer my services to you in that department! If you look up on the menu section, you'll see a new menu! Holiday Gifts! What is this?

If you don't knit... (or even if you do, you probably have a LONG LIST of people for whom you want to knit)... but still want to give your friends and family handcrafted gifts this year, I am here for you. Talk to me about colors, for whom, their personalities, or if you have a Pinterest page full of cute wardrobe for babies, or your PETS, I can make your gifts. :)

Life Things: Baby Shower!

babyshower

We had our small gathering/baby shower at our place last Saturday. Our friends came from all over So Cal to celebrate with us!

We decided to keep this very low key since we still work full time and didn't have much time to plan for lots of decorations and the nursery. We ordered most of the food and prepared very simple dishes at home.

Sandwiches from a caterer. We had so much leftover food that even after we sent guests home with food as much as possible, we still have about a week worth of sandwiches, which Marty has to finish by himself since I can't have gluten.

I thought about getting GF cupcakes, but we eventually decided to get a gluten free cake with "Welcome Baby Logan" message.

Favors I made! The safety eyes didn't get here on time so I had to improvise with crochet threads.

Of course, I had the best time opening the gifts!

I thank my friends for avoiding pastel blue, and such practical gifts! I had coffee Saturday morning and I couldn't sleep after 2am, so I spent some time in the baby's room looking at each gift again. Can't wait to use them on the baby!

Since Saturday, both Marty and I have been more serious about prepping for the baby. You see that Graco box behind all the gifts? That was our Pack n Play, which we plan to use  as the primary place for the baby to sleep in, still boxed. We have since took it out and put it together. It's so huge! I think it'll have to move out of this room into our master room, so that we can take care of the baby during the night.

Just 5 more weeks!

Other Obsessions: Project Bags

Other ObsessionsJean Chung2 Comments

I have been quite obsessed with project bags.

Before finding out how useful project bags were, my knitting WIPs usually hibernated the last place I left them -- in my car, next to my bed, under my bed, next to the couch, in the closet... And sometimes years would go by, until I finally find them again. That happened with two of the recent FOs: Marty's 2 vests (Sportweight & Worsted weight).

Christmas Angry Bird project bag I sewed, and Ravelry project bags.

Few weeks ago, I bought and made some project bags with knitting notions for my knitting group friends. I ordered some project bags from Ravelry Mini-Mart, and sewed a couple of drawstring bags with fabrics I bought at a local fabric shop, Jenny's Fabrics.

(Off-topic but interesting still: While I was at Jenny's Fabrics, Steven Tyler walked in and shopped there.)

While I was making project bags for my friends, I also made extra for my own projects. And now I can't believe I lived without them for so long! Each of my WIPs now have a home to go to at the end of the night. They stay there, all nice and pretty, then I just tackle one bag at a time! Not to mention they keep our house looking more organized since all the project bags with projects inside would go in the corner of my work area.

I am thinking about making more for a giveaway, so definitely stay tuned!
