Happy New Year everyone!
I'm finally back home with Bagel, my sister, and my husband. Poor husband drove all the way from SF to Irvine, it is about 6 hours on Freeway 5.
When we got home, it was 6 oclock and we were famished. We didn't stop for lunch and had to run and get some Korean food takeouts. We came home, pigged out, and watched the NYC countdown on tv. Ah. Family time at home.
The past 6 days in SF was quite an experience. I definitely learned to use public transportation, something I've never had to do. I'm still not that confident about public transportation. California is generally not a public transportation type of place and I never lived anywhere I had to take buses or trains, excluding occasional bus rides to campus when I was in Santa Barbara.
And then book shopping! I scored some awesome books in a couple of used bookstores in the City. I have a weird habit of buying the same books, just in different versions/editions of books that I love. Emily Dickinson, Thoreau, Emerson, and Frost. I ended up finding an old 1970s copy of a John Rawls book on Theory of Justice. And a relatively new, but more complete version of Emerson's writings. And on my last night there, I also found a 1960s copy of Ariel by Sylvia Plath. I love old books. New books are easier on the eyes, but there is something more romantic about finding and reading used, out-of-print versions of books that I love. Someone else held these books and read them; and hopefully appreciated them as much as I do now.
